A 16 year old died in a crash at Highway 50 and 392nd Avenue in Wheatland Wednesday afternoon.

From a media release on the incident from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department:

On 12-31-14, at approximately 1330 hours (1:30 p.m.), Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputies responded with the Wheatland and Randall Fire Departments, Salem Rescue, and Twin Lakes Rescue to a fatal crash on  State Highway 50 at 392nd Avenue. At the time of the crash, a full-sized pick-up truck was traveling northbound on 392nd Avenue and entered the westbound lanes of STH 50.  The northbound pick-up truck was being operated by a 16-year-old female with a 12-year-old female passenger. A … van was westbound on STH 50 and struck the pick-up truck at the intersection of STH 50 and 392nd Avenue.   The impact caused the pick-up truck to roll over, pinning the driver of the pick-up truck. Sadly, the 16-year old female operator of the pick-up truck suffered fatal injuries.  The 12-year old female passenger of the pick-up truck suffered very serious injuries and was air lifted via Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital. The van was operated by a 34-year old woman from Beach Park, IL.     … (She) was transported to Burlington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and has been fully cooperative with the investigation.    Traffic on the westbound lanes of STH 50 was subsequently re-routed while emergency personnel were on scene and during the investigation of the crash. STH 50 westbound was closed for approximately three hours and fifteen minutes. Neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors in this fatal crash.  The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The names of the involved parties in the pick-up truck are being withheld at this time pending family notifications.  Names will be released as soon as practical.
