Diane Dooley, 56, of Bristol died after she was struck by a motorcycle while she was attempting to cross Highway 50 Tuesday evening.
According to a press release from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department: At 9:25 p.m., while on patrol, a Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputy came upon a crash on Highway 50 west of Highway 45 in the westbound lanes. Additional deputies responded to the scene along with Bristol Rescue. It was determined that Darren Ward, 51, a Salem resident, was operating a 2006 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle going west on Highway 50 1,200 feet west from Highway 45 in the inside (left) lane when the motorcycle struck a pedestrian crossing the road. The pedestrian, identified as Diane Dooley, 56, of Bristol, sustained fatal injuries from the crash. A 49-year-old woman was a passenger on the motorcycle. Ward and the passenger were later treated and released from St. Catherine’s Hospital in Pleasant Prairie. Friends of Diane Dooley, who did not see the crash, reported to deputies that Dooley was crossing the road in order to get to the gas station/convenience store on the north side of Highway 50.
Circuit Court records as of 12:49 p.m. this afternoon show Ward has been charged with operating while intoxicated for an offense on April 30, 2013.
UPDATE 3:50 p.m. — Ward now also has been charged with Homicide by Intoxicated Use of Vehicle, according to circuit court records. The charge is a felony.
