Oak Vue Farm live nativity for 2016 is Dec. 9 and 10

A scene from the a previous live nativity at Oak Vue Farm.

The local holiday tradition of the live nativity at Oak Vue Farm in Bristol continues in 2016 on Dec. 9 and 10

The living nativity — which includes live animals and a cast of 40 — will be presented Friday and Saturday evening.

On Friday, Dec. 9, the approximately 30-minute presentation will take place at 6:30 and 7:45 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 10 the presentations will be at 2,  3:30 and 6:30 p.m.

The nativity started out as a project of the Gillmore family and a few friends and neighbors, said Ed Gillmore. But as the years have gone on, people have experienced the nativity and have wanted to help out too. Besides the people portraying the various characters in the story, live animals are used. There also is a choir that accompanies the scenes with music.

There is no admission charge, but donations are accepted.

A food collection at the nativity last year yielded a large amount of food. This year, the Gillmores have decided to benefit another cause. Jill Gillmore explains:

After collecting 900 lbs. of food last year at the live nativity… We have decided this year would be awesome to take up a collection for a local family. The mother is a nurse in Kenosha and her husband is in the Navy. We will be collecting diapers and wipes for this local family who had babies born at 25 weeks and have been in the NICU for 20 weeks. We hope to bless them this Christmas as they anticipate bringing their twin daughters home from the hospital after a long and trying 4 months. Please consider joining Oak Vue Farm this year.”

The farm is located at 14700 104th St. (Highway Q) about 1.5 miles west of Interstate 94 in Bristol.
