Inmate found dead in county jail cell

An inmate at the Kenosha County Jail was found dead in his cell early this morning.

Here is a media release on the situation from the Sheriff’s Department:

On 06-06-15, at approximately 0306 hours, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department Correctional Staff encountered an inmate hanging by his neck in his cell. This event occurred in the Kenosha County Pre-Trial Facility (downtown Kenosha County Jail). Life-saving measures (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator) were conducted by Correctional Officers and on site nursing staff. The Kenosha Fire Department also responded. Unfortunately, life-saving efforts were unsuccessful and the inmate did not survive. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department summoned the assistance of the Racine County Sheriff’s Department to investigate the death
of this inmate. Investigators from The Racine County Sheriff’s Department responded. The Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene. The inmate, a 66-year old man from Kenosha, was being held in the Jail on a Misdemeanor Probation Hold for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The inmate’s identity is being withheld pending family notification. Additional information and details will be forthcoming as they become available.”
