Woman who died in state line crash identified

The woman who died in a three-vehicle crash Friday in Bristol near the Wisconsin-Illinois state line has been identified by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department as Kathryn E. Kowalczyk, of Trevor.

In the crash, a car driven by Sandor Katona, 81, of Zion drove westbound on Highway WG through a red light and collided with a northbound on Highway 45 semi truck driven by Steven Foote, 44, of Dodge Center, Minn., according to information from the Sheriff’s Department. That collision forced the semi truck into the southbound lanes of Highway 45, where it collided with Kowalczyk’s pick-up truck.

Kantona has been cited for violation of a traffic control signal, Sgt. Robert Croeker, Sheriff’s Departmetn spokesman, said. Kantona was transported from the scene by Flight for Life Medical transport helicopter to Froedert Hospital.

Foote was treated and released from St. Catherine’s Hospital in Pleasant Prairie.

The intersection was closed for hours while deputies investigated the crash scene, but it is now open again to traffic.

Written reports pertaining to this investigation are still being completed, Croeker said.
