A woman died and a man was seriously injured after a mini-van rear-ended a semi-truck on a section of I-94 under construction late Thursday night.

From a news release from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department:

On 04-24-14 at 2247 hours Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputies responded with the Kenosha Fire Department, Pleasant Prairie Fire Department, and Bristol Fire Department to a fatal crash on I-94 SB South of CTH N (3800 block). I-94 is under construction in this area. The highway is reduced to two lanes of traffic in each direction. At the time of the crash, traffic for southbound had been reduced to one lane. Motoring traffic had stopped due to the merging lanes. A mini-van that was southbound rear ended a stopped semi-truck. Traffic in both directions was subsequently re-routed while emergency personnel were on scene and during the investigation of the crash. The highway re-opened at about 0411 hours (4-25-14). The 34 year old, male driver of the mini-van sustained severe head injuries. Flight for life landed on I-94 SB south of the scene of the crash. The driver was transported by Flight for Life to Froedtert Medical Center. His condition remains critical. The 33-year-old female passenger sustained fatal injuries during the crash. There were no other occupants of the vehicle. The man and woman are husband and wife and reside in Sun Prairie, WI. The driver of the semi-truck sustained minor neck and should injuries. He is a 40 year old man from Milwaukee, WI. The driver of the semi-truck submitted to a voluntary blood test. No impairment is suspected at this time. There was no evidence to suggest the driver of the mini-van is impaired, however, the cause of the crash is still under investigation. The names of the involved parties are being withheld at this time pending positive identification. Names will be released as soon as practical.

UPDATE 3:25 p.m. — The Sheriff’s Department has released some updated information: “In reviewing the records a more accurate location of this crash is about the 3200 block of I-94 SB. This places the crash North of CTH N (38th St.) rather than South of CTH N. The name of the deceased passenger is Shari Dorresteijn. The name of the driver of the mini-van (Shari’s husband) is Bram Dorresteijn. Bram remains in critical condition at Froedtert Medical Center.”

I am curious about the cut off section of the photos. Does the photographer have any other photos to share?

  2. Wondering says:

Why are the pictures cropped from the bottom?

    1. What appears to be a crop is in fact a concrete median wall.

  3. Wondering says:

That same median wall in all 3 accident pictures. But no median wall at the last construction picture. Strange.
