After a meeting with the Menominee Tribe about its proposal to locate a casino in Kenosha, Gov. Scott Walker holds the fate of the project in his hands.

State Rep. Samantha Kerkman repeated her support for the project in a statement released Wednesday:

The Menominee Tribe present a very compelling case for approving the Hard Rock Kenosha casino project. They have outlined a solid plan that will bring thousands of new jobs to Kenosha and southeast Wisconsin while protecting the other tribes. The Hard Rock project will attract tourists from all over the region and bring increased revenue to the entire state of Wisconsin. I am confident that the Governor’s requirements have been met. I ask Gov. Walker to say ‘yes’ to the proposed casino and help turn Kenosha into a world-class tourist destination,” said Rep. Kerkman.

The casino received federal approval earlier this year and now awaits Walker’s approval. Walker has said he wants all the state’s tribes to agree on the casino. Two of the tribes have openly opposed the Kenosha casino.

The casino would be located on the grounds of the closed Dairyland Greyhound Park.

Menominee representatives have estimated the project could create about 5,000 temporary and permanent jobs.

The Randall and Salem town boards have approved resolutions supporting the casino. The Bristol and Silver Lake village boards have considered such resolutions, but deferred action.
