Paul Snellen named new Silver Lake village trustee

silver-lake-VHThe Silver Lake Village Board on Wednesday appointed Paul Snellen to the Village Board to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of David Snow last month.

Snellen was one of five people who submitted letters of interest regarding filling the position. The others were: Jo Lasdasky, Roger Johnson, Rebecca Pattie and Laurie Starkey.

Village procedures call for the village president to make a suggestion to fill open trustee seats, but the board must act on the matter. Gerber suggested Starkey, citing her work to stop train whistle blowing trains pass through the village. With her letter of interest, Starkey included the signatures of 40 residents supporting her appointment.

Trustee Michael Decker said he agreed with Gerber’s choice, saying he was impressed with Starkey’s extra effort in obtaining the signatures of support. But Trustee Patrick Dunn said he favored Snellen and Trustee Soti Wilber said she favored Snellen too, citing his public works experience and lack of known position on local controversial issues.

“He’s never been involved in any of the conflicts …,” Wilber said.

Dunn moved to name Snellen to the seat and Wilber seconded the motion. Decker was the first vote in the roll call. He hesitated, but eventually voted in favor of Snellen’s appointment. Snellen was approved by a 5 to 2 vote, with President Sue Gerber and Trustee Barbara Ironside voting no.

Snellen did not appear to be present at the meeting.

Well…”Mudslinging Sue” did it again. Remember …”the Queen” ordered fire and rescue folks not to use “social media” to slam each other’s organizations. Then she turns around and LAMBASTS a board member candidate for being “anti-rescue” and “pro fire department”. What a SLAM to the Pattie family and their years of dedicated loyal service to the Fire Service. Guess Sue has no problem with herself being “anti-fire” and pro-rescue”. Pound the gavel all you want Sue,
you are a “lame duck” president only 3 months into your term. You owe both the candidates you slammed an apology, but on second thought, most of the things that come out of your mouth are usually garbled because your FOOT is sticking inside of it. Pound that gavel a little harder!

I think Trustee Snellen’s first order of business should be to learn why SLRS is “demanding” $27,000 for rescue squad services, when they only charge surrounding communities $7500. It should not take him long to figure out that this inequity has been going on for much too long. He should talk to his fellow board members, get an explanation from each of them as to why this situation has been allowed for so long, look at all of the options that have been presented, then make his decision accordingly. No doubt, he’s probably being “lobbied” by both sides, but as he is new to the board, he should be relatively neutral to the issue until he gets up to speed on it. I think he’ll probably figure it out the first time he gets “gavelled” or Fryda screams at him from the back of the room. Good Luck!

I am sure that Flip Flop Barb, told him afterwards she wants him on the board. She is really living up to her name. She votes and speaks one way at the meeting, and then will change her tune half way thru the conversation. I just don’t understand. Make up your mind and stick to it. Everyone will have more respect for you if you do. I don’t know that it matters how you vote as long as you do it for the right reasons and it is what you truly believe. She can’t even do that. She votes right along side whatever Sue is gonna do. Siding with the same people who threatened her and her employment last year. That’s why she resigned before, or doesn’t anyone remember that??? BTW, that is the second time she has resigned from the board, and been accepted back by APPOINTMENT, which she has no problem bashing the other for being there that way. How hypocritical can one be???
