The consensus of Salem officials seems to be positive about Pumpkindaze, the community event that Salem held for the first time last month.
Town Chairman Diann Tesar said she received positive feedback on the event, which featured a Craft/Vendor Fair, Children’s Activities, Baggo Tournament, 50/50 Raffle, Pumpkin Beer/Other Beer available, Pumpkin Carving Contest, Salem Idol Contest, Bake Sale and Food concluding with a barn dance in the evening.
“We heard a lot of good comments that we are doing something,” Tesar said.
In answer to an audience question at a special Town Board meeting Monday, Patrick Casey, town administrator, said the event ran about a $1,200 deficit this year. However, some of that cost was attributed to start-up costs that may not have to be repeated in future years.
The event would have shown a profit if money from a raffle was added in, but that money was earmarked for fortifying the park fund, Casey said.
Turnout was so strong for the event that parking was overwhelmed at the Trevor Fire Station/Highway Department complex in Trevor off of Highway C. For next year’s event, already set for Oct. 19, the plan is to bring Pumpkindaze to the Kenosha County Fairgrounds, in Wilmot.
“We will move it to the fairgrounds next year where we can park,” Casey said.
