Silver Lake Easter Egg Hunt is April 16

A scene from the 2009 Silver Lake Easter Egg Hunt.

The 15th annual Silver Lake Easter Egg Hunt will be April 16 at Schmalfeldt Park.

The hunt begins promptly at 11 a.m. when “Mr. Bunny” (a.k.a. Austin Stoxen) arrives atop a shiny fire engine, courtesy of fire Chief Bill Brown and Trustee Richard Maron.

The hunt is restricted to children between the ages of 3 and 6, said Trustee Ann Augustin, who organized the event. Parents of children are asked not to accompany youngsters during their search. There will be separate hiding sections for each age group so even the youngest child should be able to retrieve their share of eggs. Seventh grade students from Riverview School will supervise the actual hunt, keeping the kids in their respective age groups and giving help to any child who needs it.

Hidden inside some of the eggs and equally distributed between the age groups, will be gift certificates donated by Dairy Queen and McDonald’s. Although all the eggs contain candy, there will be three very special eggs (one for each age group) that will entitle the finder to a large, plush bunny donated by Peoples Bank and presented to the winners by “Mr. Bunny.”

The 800 eggs used for the event were stuffed by Gail Runkel and Linda Myers of Sugar-n-Spice  Styling & Tanning Salon, 315 E. Lake St. Silver Lake, Augustin said.

UPDATE 9:02 a.m. April 13 — The organizers have said that in the case of inclement weather, the hunt would be moved to April 23, but I have not heard any word on whether they have decided to use that rain date yet. — DH
