Twin Lakes resident dies from fire

The Twin Lakes Police Department has issued a press release on the fire last night on Rink Avenue, which we initially reported on here.

Elizabeth Brown, 30, of Twin Lakes died after being taken out of the burning building and transported to a hospital.

Here is the press release:

On Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 7:43PM, a fire at 611 Rink Avenue was reported to the Twin Lakes Police Department Dispatch Center. Police Department personnel, along with the Twin Lakes Fire Department and EMS, and several other area Fire Departments were summoned to the scene.

Police Officers, who were first to arrive on scene at 7:45PM, forced open the apartment door and were immediately met by smoke and flames. The officers attempted to use portable fire extinguishers to reduce the fire to check for occupants, but were quickly overcome by the heavy smoke and the rapid spreading fire. At 7:51PM the Fire Department arrived, at which time Firefighters immediately made entry to the apartment, located the unconscious resident, and carried her to safety. Elizabeth Brown, 30 years old of Twin Lakes, was conveyed by Twin Lakes Rescue to Aurora Burlington Hospital, however Ms. Brown passed away shortly thereafter. An autopsy will be conducted Friday morning at the Milwaukee County Medical Examiners Officer.

Twin Lakes Police Chaplains were on hand at the hospital to assist and comfort family members.

The fire spread to eight other apartments before being contained by firefighters. The displaced residents sought shelter with family and friends.

Twin Lakes Police investigators and the Wisconsin State Fire Marshall’s Office are conducting further investigation.
