At 9 p.m., sheriff’s deputies and Salem Fire/Rescue units are responding to a report of a rollover crash at Rock Lake Road and 122nd Street, Salem.
UPDATE 9:02 p.m. — Deputy reporting from scene says one vehicle is upside down near the northeast corner of the intersection. No one is in the vehicle. The vehicle appears also to have hit a power pole.
UPDATE 9:10 p.m. — Deputy reports that witnesses said three people from car may have fled scene westbound along the creek just north of the crash scene.
UPDATE 9:31 p.m. — We Energies on scene. Deputy reports that he has received a report that occupants may have made their way to North Avenue in Illinois.
UPDATE Jan. 7 — According to a report supplied by the Sheriff’s Department: The driver of the vehicle, an Illinois man, allegedly did flee the scene. He was contacted by officers who acquired his cell phone number through registration records. He initially denied being in the area, but eventually came to the scene after being picked up by his girlfriend, the other owner of the rolled vehicle. After admitting to deputies that he was driving the car, traveling about 110 mph and struck the pole, he was charged with several traffic offenses, including driving too fast for conditions, failure to stop for a stop sign, hit and run property adjacent to a highway, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and failure to notify police of an accident. After being taken to the Kenosha County Jail, he complained of pain and was taken to a Kenosha hospital. He was checked by medical staff and found to be OK and was taken back to the jail.
