A design by Wilmot High School freshman Sonja Trocke has been chosen to grace two new Twin Lakes Police Department squad cars.

Trocke’s design was one of five student designs that were considered. Other students participating were Kenny McCormack, Ericka Surowaniec, Andrew Spittle and Tyler Kunzman.

The top design was selected by a panel of about 25 people, including Village Board members, Police and Fire Commission members, some community members, and police department staff, said Police Chief Dale Racer. Road Rage, the company that will apply the graphics, also participated in the judging.

“It was hard to choose,” Racer said. “They all had merit.”

Trocke said she wanted to widen her art horizons in entering the contest.

“I’m new here and I decided to test my skill in the contest,” Trocke said. The design she ultimately submitted was the melding of a more radical design and a simpler design, she explained.

Trocke received a $100  gift card for her effort. Second place finisher Kunzman received a $50 card. The others received $25 cards.
