A developers agreement that could pave the way for a Dollar General store to come to Twin Lakes was tabled by village President Howard Skinner Monday.
Skinner said the developers agreement needs more negotiation and that he in particular is not satisfied with the building facade and landscaping of the site.
“This particular member of the Village Board is fed up with them,” Skinner said of the project’s developer.
Skinner said he recently saw a Dollar General store in Rhinelander that he felt had the right look.
“They’ve soured my taste,” Skinner said of the Twin Lakes proposal. “They need to either make up their mind or move along.”
The store would be developed and built by the developer, which would then lease the store to Dollar General, which would operate the business.
The store is proposed for a vacant site on North Lake Avenue just north of where a US Bank is now located.
The same developer is seeking to build a Dollar General store in Paddock Lake on Highway 50.
Dollar General is the country’s largest retailer in terms of locations with over 8,800 stores, said Todd Platt, representative of the Twin Lakes project’s developer. He likened the stores offerings to a Wal-Mart, but on a smaller scale.
If the agreement can be worked out, a special meeting of the Village Board might be needed to approve it to meet the developer’s timeline, said village administrator David Cox.
