Salem town supervisor candidate interviews

Over the last week we have interviewed most of the candidates for Salem town supervisor. Following are their responses to two questions captured on video.

Eileen Del Monico declined to participate.

Most of the candidates were interviewed at a meet and greet and event held last week at the Community Library. Dennis Faber did not attend that event due to a family obligation, so I caught up to him Wednesday and interviewed him in his home.

The field of six will be trimmed to four in a primary Feb. 16. Those four will then compete for two available seats in the April 6 spring election.

Here is what they had to say:

Pete DeRidder:

Dennis Faber:

Very good ideas by all! More timely disimination of “Draft” meeting minutes than what is done currently on the town’s website would definitely help us catch up with the Digital Era we now live in. Holding down taxpayers cost is not ever going to be easy. Our clayey soils heave, skrink, and swell when wet making runoff 100% when saturated to a depth of 6 inches. That not only causes puddling in yards and water in basements, it creates an on-going maintenance challenge for roads and burying pipeline. I only hope the youngest of all the candidates realizes doing what is best for the town might not always be what most popular with the elctorate.
