Randall School Board candidates air their views at forum

Candidates for the Randall School Board gave their views on six topics at a forum Monday afternoon sponsored by the district’s teachers’ union.

All five candidates appeared at the forum and answered questions that they were given ahead of time. About 17 people attended, most of them being school staff.

Following is video of each candidate telling a little about themselves and then answering the first two questions: Why are you running for school board and what are the school’s strengths and areas that need improvement.

First up was Jan Brockway:

Second was Bill Jones:

Third was Shari Kuwik:

Fourth was Jim O’Connell:

Fifth was Linda Smith:

The other questions were:

  • What ought to be the relationship between the school board and the general public? The board and teachers? The teachers and the general public?
  • How do you visualize your role as a school board member?
  • How do you feel about the bargaining process between the school board and Randall?
  • How do you feel about a Randall early retirement incentive for teachers?

The field of five will be narrowed to four in the Feb. 16 primary. Those four will then vie for two seats on the board in the April 6 election.
