After closed lanes on Highway 50 switch later this week, there will be no access to Highway B from the four-land road.

Lane closures on Highway 50 at Highway B are due to change this week, as the work by the state to make that intersection safer progresses.

Currently the right or outside lanes in each direction on Highway 50 are closed while workers have been reconstructing the median, left lanes and left turn lanes. Starting sometime this week, the outside or right lanes in both directions will be closed while through traffic uses the left lanes. The new lane closure also will close access to Highway B on both the north and south sides of the road, said Dennis Shook, a state Department of Transportation spokesman.

Residents of the Salem Hills subdivision will have to access Highway B from Highway K, Shook said.

The new lane configuration and road closures are expected to continue until the project is completed in November.

The work on the intersection began in July. The $1.7 million project will include installing traffic signals at the intersection, which has been the scene of several very serious car crashes.
