Paddock Lake residents on the village water system in the Dells neighborhood will likely continue under a boil water order until  at least Friday, village officials said Wednesday night.

A water main break was detected by a resident who saw water surfacing Tuesday. Crews from the village and contractor Wansaek Construction of Burlington worked on the break, completing work at about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

“It was quite a night,” village administrator John Burg said at Wednesday’s Village Board meeting. “I do want to commend the staff … We all pitched in. My hat is off to the excellent team here that did a job.”

The break was in an area of weak pipe, Burg said. A valve connection to a main that was loose and leaking had worn away the main pipe over years and finally gave way.

Among the adversity faced by the village crew in making the repair was a generator that caught fire.

The village cannot remove the boil order until two days of clean bacteria water tests are received.
