The severe storm that passed through the area this evening has caused some road closures, including Highway C and the southbound lanes of I-94 at 142. There’s a report that Highway 50 at the I is closed, too.

The National Weather Service’s says the main danger is flooding because the ground is already saturated. The storms are expected to be out over Lake Michigan by 10 p.m. Here’s the radar.

UPDATE 9:19 P.M. — NWS says rain was the heaviest in eastern Kenosha County — where two to three inches of rain fell in short order.

Flash flooding is the immediate danger. The NWS warns that most deaths from flash flooding occur in automobiles. Motorists are cautioned to never drive into an area that is flooded.

Longer term, the Fox River at New Munster is forecast to exceed the action stage of 9 feet sometime early Saturday and exceed flood stage by Saturday evening.
