A Revolutionary War veteran, whose family name is a local icon, will be remembered in a Memorial Day weekend ceremony.
The Wisconsin Society Sons of the American Revolution will honor David “Blind David’ Paddock at a ceremony at Liberty Corners Cemetery, south of Highway C on Highway 83, at 11 a.m., Saturday.
David Paddock was “was blinded from powder burn injuries he sustained during the Revolutionary War,” according to Wikipedia. He died shortly after arriving in Western Kenosha County with the party of his grandson, Dr. Francis Paddock, namesake of Paddock Lake — the body of water and consequently the village.
The public is invited and Paddock relatives are encouraged to attend, said Linda Valentine, Salem town chairman and local history buff. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Color Guard will take their positions at Liberty Cemetery in Paddock’s honor and a short program by the Wisconsin Society Sons of the American Revolution will follow.
