Weekly test results for some Western Kenosha County lakes have one beach under a swimming caution due to high E.coli levels.

Testing on Tuesday at Old Settlers County Park on Paddock Lake returned a result of 260 E.coli/100 mL. The county Division of Health will re-sample at Old Settlers Wednesday.

All other lakes tested this week are open.

Results reported Tuesday, June 13 by Randall were:

  • Randall – Powers Lake 1E.coli/100 mL

Results reported Wednesday, June 14, by the Kenosha County Health Department were:

  • Salem Lakes — Silver Lake County Park, 25 E.coli/100 mL.
  • Paddock Lake — Old Settlers Park, 260 E.coli/100 mL; North Shore Beach Association, 9 E.coli/100 mL; Hoag Beach, 23 E.coli/100 mL; PHLA Beach, 42 E.coli/100 mL.
  • Wheatland — Lilly Lake, 5 E.coli/100 mL.

The State Department of Health recommends posting warnings at beaches when the test results indicate a E.coli level of 300/100ml or more and closing a beach when test results exceed E.coli 1000/100ml. Wheatland (Lilly Lake) has a policy of posting an advisory for a level of E.coli 235/100 mL or more and closing a beach when test results exceed E.coli 1000/100ml.

How do I look up the results of the weekly tests of the area lakes? I just read Silver Lake has high levels, but wouldn’t know unless I saw it posted on facebook. Is there way to get notified?

    1. westofthei.com, where you just commented, post the results of water quality tests performed by the county every Wednesday during the season and for any follow-ups needed for tests showing elevated levels.
