Wilmot takes first, Central third at state cheer championships

With the backdrop of the largest US Flag, the Wisconson State Cheer Championships were held on Saturday in Madison at the Alliant Energy Center. Teams from all over Wisconsin were represented, teams as small as 7 athletes to as many as 30 athletes in the large Co-Ed division. The Kenosha County schools represented were, St. Joseph’s, Wilmot, Westosha Central, and Bradford.

In 2011, Wilmot, won the State Championship in the Large Varsity Division. This year’s team, Coached by Jennifer Miller, returned and won State in the Division 2 Medium Division.

Kenosha Bradford took second place in the Co-ed Large Division.

Central, coached by Natalia Vernezze, took third place in the Large Varsity Division.

In addition there were individual and Stunt Group competitions held.  Central took the top 3 spots with the Quad stunt group consisting of Jordie Miller, Samantha Jennings, Briana Varnes and Lauren Fliess won State in Division 2 All-Girl Stunt, congratulations to those 4 athletes. Jordie Miller won All-State honors for her individual performance as well.

Kristen Paulsen of St. Joseph’s also won All-State honors for her individual performance.
